TaiGen Biotechnology, Ltd. (TaiGen) and the american high-tech pharmaceutical company R-Pharm have announced the conclusion of an exclusive agreement in the field of development and commercial promotion of the drug nemonoxacin (Taigexyn) in the United States, in Turkey and in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Nemonoxacin is an innovative non-fluorinated quinolone for oral and intravenous administration, designed to treat bacterial infections.

According to the results of clinical studies, nemonoxacin has shown a high activity against resistant strains of microorganisms, including against Staphylococcus aureus resistant to methicillin (MRSA), resistant to fluoroquinolones Staphylococcus aureus and S. pneumoniae .

In 2013, TaiGen completed phases II and III of clinical trials of the drug's effectiveness in the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia in Taiwan and mainland China. The results of the research were transmitted to the health authorities of the respective regions. In June 2012, TaiGen transferred exclusive rights to the medicines in China to Zhejiang Medicine. In the United States, TaiGen conducted two Phase II clinical trials that evaluated the drug's effectiveness in treating community-acquired pneumonia and diabetic foot syndrome. In December 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved an accelerated registration procedure for nemonoxacin for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, as well as skin and soft tissue infections. TaiGen has a global portfolio of patents for the chemical composition, use and manufacture of nemonoxacin, valid until 2029.

As part of the agreement, R-Pharm will develop, register and market, at its expense, nemonoxacin in the above territories.
